Durganagar is a suburb of Kolkata, though administratively under the district of North 24 Parganas. The town is about 16 km. from Sealdah station towards Bongaon and 1 km. west to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. It was named after goddess Durga.
Geography

Durganagar (WEST) is a part of North Dum Dum Municipality since 2000, while Durganagar (EAST) belongs to DUM DUM MUNICIPALITY. Previously it was under Sultanpur. Its population is about 50,000. Most of the people are Hindu. Only about 2-3 hundreds of Muslim population are residing to its eastern side. Main landmark of this town is Durganagar Rly. Station, which is on the Sealdah - North(SEALDAH - BONGAON) section of the Kolkata suburban railway system. The place is very close to the Kolkata Airport also.
HistoryThe place is named after the goddess Durga. Almost 3-4 Durga puja's pandels are set up during the main festive season. The main Puja is the "Durganagar Sarbajanin puja", which is set up at the main (durganagar sporting club) playground near Durganagar X Roads (Chou rasta) near 'Ananda Sandhya' banquet hall.

Durganagar Nabarun Sangha situated at Dum Dum North Assembly, Ward No. 21 under North Dum Dum Municipality, established in the year 1972 Reg. No. S/44409 and it’s extended medical unit as ‘Nabarun Sebalaya’ in 1993 which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Health Minister, Dr. Prasanta Sur. Govt. of West Bengal. Since then we have been providing free treatment along with medicines to the poor patients under the guidance and with the help of few famous Doctor’s of our locality and the Club members.
