Dr. B. Michael Jeyaraj, a Siddha doctor, founder, author who has passion for the Siddha Medicine was born in Tirunelveli 1961. He is 40 years old.
He grew up in Palayamkotttai and attended St. Xavier’s School, Palayamkottai and then Government….Then graduated from GSMC with a degree in siddha medicine.
He founded Tamizh Maruthuva Kazhagam to nurture the students of GSMC. He also worked in Tirunelveli region to help local communities systematize their tradition medicine knowledge so they could employ it in their own primary health care. As part of this work, he has conducted 4 types of camp named Anjarai petti.
He was well aware of the inequalities in our society. So his work medicinal plants here in Papanasam was his way of contributing alleviation of this poverty since medicines in our country are beyond the reach of majority of the people. Dr Micheal is survived by his wife Mrs. Amirtham and his son Chezhiyan.
His work is very significant since there are only handful of Siddha doctors in the state. Most of them are focus on only individual health.
Ulaga Tamil Maruthuva Kazhagam was founded in 1992 in Palayamkottai for the purpose of promotion and dissemination of Siddha medicine. Over the years UTMK has developed into an unique organization in Siddha community. The scientific interest of UTMK cover nowdays are aspects of siddha like medicinal preparations, medicinal plants, pharmacy, and external therapies.
Since 1992, KARPA AVIZHTHAM is the office magazine of the UTMK. UTMK is setting up and supporting smaller symposia and workshop as specific topics related to Siddha medicine
UTMK has established 5 permanent committees which elaborate and disseminate information on
i) conservation medicnal plants
ii) manufacturing of traditional high order siddha medicines.
iii) literary survey on siddha medicine books
iv) Research initiatives on Siddha medicine
v) Health Care Services
