Transfiguration Lutheran Church Bhimavaram

On 1842, John Christian Frederick Heyer a German missionary known as “Father Heyer” came to India from America and settled in Guntur. From there, he tried to moved to Nellore, East Godavari areas but, already missionaries from various places settled and started thier services. So, Guntur as centre Father Heyer continued his missionary services in Palnadu area. At that time Father Valet and the irrigation engineer Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton who was the constructor of Dowleswaram Barrage, Godavari Canal System, continued missionary services Rajahmundry as centre. On July 31st 1842, Guntur as Centre, Father Heyer started the organization AELC- Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church. Later, Father Heyer and Father Walet started their services in West Godavari District. Under the leadership of Neudolph in 1895 Construction of Transfiguration Lutheran Church was started, at the same time to extend the school education, district’s first High School, Lutheran High School was founded.
In West Godavari district, Bhimavaram is continuing its services as a centre for AELC. Guntur as headquarters, there are 800 AELC churches and 1000 pastors in Guntur, Krishna, East and West Godavari regions spreading the word of God. Guntur as main centre AELC is divided into 6 synods. Bhimavaram as centre West Godavari is one of the synods. In this synod approximately there are 2Lakh believers and 10 churches are located only in Bhimavaram.
Transfiguration Lutheran Church (TLC), it is having history of 119 years, many people prayers, offerings, sacrifices, played major role in the construction of this God’s Temple. He did many miracles in this holy place. Many people accepted their sins and turned towards God. TLC is open daily from morning 6.00 till the evening 8.00. Under this TLC there are more than 1500 believers.
In the year 2012, Transfiguration Lutheran Church, not only the famous God’s Temple but also one of the Historical monuments of Bhimavaram was dismantled as it was congested and cannot able to serve 600 people also. So in the same place approximately with Rs.3 Crores of estimation, foundation stone was laid to build New Church and the construction work is now under process. By the end of 2014 we can see our new Transfiguration Lutheran church.
