Tibet World

Over 150,000 Tibetans refugees have fled Tibet since the Chinese occupation. This has created a worldwide Tibetan diaspora, the most famous representative of which is His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Dharamsala is the second home of His Holiness as well as the government in exile and thousands of refugees.

Some of the difficulties facing refugees are:

1) Loneliness and isolation from family and friends
2) Disconnection and alienation from Indian and Western culture.
3) Lack of community support structures
4) Unemployment and lack of educational opportunities
5) Alcoholism and drug abuse
6) Language barriers

Below is the list of activities which Tibet World proposes to accomplish:

a) Education:
● Classes in language (English and international) and job skills for Tibetan refugees. Evening classes will be available for those who work during the day
● For school children, after-school classes, tutorials, day picnics and trips
● For volunteers and tourists, classes including:
○ Tibetan language
○ Basics of Buddhism and meditation
● Yoga classes
● During winter school holidays, special education and development programs for TCV students without parents, relatives, and family in India
● Training workshops for Tibetans school teachers
● Educational scholarships for Tibetan refugees

b) Culture
● Cultural education and exchange through classes and events involving:
○ Traditional music
○ Dance
○ Art and handcrafts
● Cooking
● Awareness programs providing information about Tibet through presentations and discussions
● Exhibitions of authentic Tibetan artwork and products
● workshops on traditional health care
● Community events celebration of Tibetan festivals, community meals etc

c) Environment
● Environmental awareness campaigns and activities
