More about Thrive Seed

This page will be used to bring you updates from our everyday life with Thrive Seed.

HISTORY:
In 2003 Sonu Kaur started teaching some of the underprivileged children in her community in Baljeet Nagar. They needed education, hope and a positive influence. She has provided more than 500 children with educational opportunities, and wants the project to keep growing.

PROJECTS:
1. Thrive Seed School in Baljeet Nagar
This school is mostly attended by children who are attending government schools, but as the education given is not always the best, our school provides them with a second source of education. We have morning classes for the junior students, run by Stuti Kumari and evening classes for our senior students, run by Rani Hassan.

2. School in Nehru Nagar
This school is mostly attended by children who are not getting any other kind of education. The classes are run in the evening by Miss Pooja Singh Nehrunagar. Both Pooja and Rani used to be students of Sonu.

3. Women's Empowerment Project
In our women's empowerment program we teach women skills such as sewing and tailoring which is a small step towards giving them more freedom and confidence. The class is run by Pooja. Sonu also gives counselling to the women in the various issues that they are facing.

VOLUNTEERING:
In both our schools, the teachers and the children benefit from assistance. It is also great for the children to be able to learn about different cultures, and knowing they are able to talk with people from all over the world gives them confidence. The women's empowerment project has also benefited a lot from volunteering in the past. If you would like to volunteer with us, please visit our web page: http://thriveseed.org

FUNDING:
To pay the school rent, the teachers a small fee, and to be able to provide the children with books, pencils etc. we need funds. Our donations come from friends, family, and previous volunteers. With more funds our project would be able to grow. We are looking for sponsors to help us reach as many children as possible. If you would like to donate, you can visit our webpage: http://thriveseed.org

AIMS:
We aim to establish and maintain caring and nurturing learning environments where children from less fortunate backgrounds are given the opportunity to learn and develop essential skills and attributes to better their own futures, and those of their communities.
