The Oasis Debate 2016

The Debating Society of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, after hosting successful editions of freshers' Asian Parliamentary debates and becoming a platform for newcomers to receive some stellar feedback from veterans, is proud to invite you to The Oasis Debate- The Freshers' Parliamentary Debate, scheduled to be held from the 20th to 21st October, 2016 at the Pilani Campus during our Annual Cultural Festival- 'Oasis'. We are very proud to announce that the Core Adjudicator for this year's Oasis Debate is Srishti Rongpipi from JMC. The debate shall follow a 2-on-2 Parliamentary format. For details, kindly refer to the rules-booklet attached to this mail. Cross teams are not allowed. While debating teams are restricted to being fresher teams, there is no such restriction on adjudicators.


The tournament will be a part of our annual cultural festival, Oasis! The festival witnesses participation that spreads across colleges all over the country and includes events such as JAM, Mock Parliament, Slam Poetry, Oasis Quiz, Rocktaves- The Semi-Professional Rock Competition, dance and drama competitions, a fashion show and much more (including chances to leave with a significantly heavier wallet). We will also be hosting our very own Candice Redding EDM Night this year. The 46th edition of Oasis will witness electrifying performances from the Bombay Garage Punk band The Lightyears Explode and the popular 3-piece acoustic indie rock band from Kerala, When Chai Met Toast. This will be accompanied by our renowned Hindi Professional Show with the likes of Amit Trivedi, gearing up to set the stage ablaze in Pilani this October; Hence, be assured that besides debating there’s still a lot that you can do while you’re here!

1) Visit http://bits-oasis.org/2016/register if you haven't already. Read on to understand the application procedure.

2) Peruse the Oasis ’15 Rules Booklet, http://bits-oasis.org/#events for a comprehensive definition of all the events.

3) In the 'select events to register' field, click the '+' sign, which will lead you to the events page.

4) Scroll to 'Oratory' section and select 'Oasis Debate'.

5) After registration is complete, wait for confirmation from our side, after we verify eligibility and tournament team cap.
