The Friends Mission

Friends,

We would like to introduce ourselves as a NGO working towards the educational & social upliftment of the under-privileged section of our society.

Our organization was founded in the year 1989 in Kolkata by a good number of like-minded & committed followers of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The idea for formation of our NGO was generated when we observed the poor & helpless condition of the downtrodden students in the outskirts of Kolkata and its neighboring villages. We formed our organization with an aim to upgrade the quality of education & life of those underprivileged students. Our mission is to “Educate, Agitate and Organise.” In order to fulfill the dreams of Dr. Ambedkar, the members of our MISSION have incorporated his famous slogan “PAYBACK TO THE SOCIETY”.

After facing a lot of financial struggle, the MISSION purchased a plot of land measuring 3.8 katha at DURGANAGAR (Kolkata-700079) & obtained permission from municipality for constructing a 3 storied building. We are proud to mention that the MISSION have constructed a two stored building in this plot through the voluntary contribution of all its own members and at present the market value of the property is approx Rs 50 lakhs. Also it is noteworthy that through all our humble contribution we have kept a corpus fund of Rs 6 lakhs.

We know that Dr. Ambedkar immensely stressed on mass education & hostel accommodation of the downtrodden students. He thought that education is the only way through which the deprived people can enlighten themselves about their legitimate social rights & self respect.


Keeping in mind the sermons of Dr. Ambedkar, the MISSION has been working mainly in the education sector for the poor SC/ST & OBC students as per below:

1. Since the inception in 1989, the Mission has been running two free coaching centers for poor & meritorious students of Class IX and X. One coaching center is at Missions own building & another one is at a remote village called Ranihati (Bangaon, North 24 Pgs). Till date near about 500 students have passed through these coaching centers. The remuneration of all the teachers in these coaching centers is being paid by the MISSION.

2. Since last 4 years MISSION has started two free job oriented Training Centers at Missions own building & another one at Ranihati. We can proudly mention here that till date 39 Trainees from these centers have got job in Govt Sector & they are now well established in life.

3. The Mission started RENT FREE HOSTEL on the 1st floor of the Mission’s building. 21 poor, talented & bright students are currently accommodated in this hostel for higher education like MBBS, Engineering, Master Degree & Honors degree. All the students are from different remote villages of West Bengal.

4. Every year the Mission distributes huge number of text books to all students of the free coaching centers & poor students 10 high schools of Dum Dum area.

5. Every year the Mission arranges social seminar, rural seminar, cultural seminar & health awareness program for the downtrodden people.



AN APPEAL TO ALL :
It is a fact that most of the founder member of the MISSION have now retired from their services and some have demised. Due to the severe shortage of funds we are unable to start the construction of the 2nd floor of our Mission’s building where 21 more students can be accommodated.
- Benevolent and generous public, donors and well-wishers are invited to be the member of our MISSION. Anyone can be a LIFE MEMBER of the MISSION by donating Rs 5,000 for our corpus fund & join our noble cause,
- If anybody donates minimum Rs 25,000, the MISSION will allow installing a memorial stone plate in his name or his relative’s name in a very prominent place of the mission building,
- If any kind hearted person desires to donate for the cost of construction of the 2nd floor of the building, the MISSION may dedicate the 2nd floor in his name or in the memory of his near relatives,
- We also appeal to the trusties which provide financial help for education & development of the poor section of people on the society,
- We consider “THE FRIENDS MISSION” as a Temple for the deprived people. So any kind of help will be accepted with great regards,
- Note that any donation to the MISSION is exempted under section 80G of the INCOME TAX ACT,
