St.Gabriel's High School, Warangal

St. Gabriel’s High School, Fatimanagar, was established by Provincial Rev. Bro. Louis Beaureau in June, 1955 at the invitation of Most Rev. Alphonsus Beretta. The Diocese handed-over the land and existing structures in the campus to the Brothers of St. Gabriel. It is one of the first educational institutions established at Fatimanagar and also in the Diocese of Warangal. Bro. Vincent was its founder Principal. The school, initially had only from class VI, both in English & Telugu media. A primary section was added in 1977 at the initiative of Bro. Berchmans, the then Principal. St. Gabriel’s school, which was exclusively for boys during the first three decades, became co-educational in June 1985 during the tenure of Bro. Alexander.

It may be placed on record that this institution has had over 500 Diocesan Priests and Religious as part of our alumni – of whom Rev. Bros. Thomas Reddy & Varghese Thecknath have been former Provincial Superiors, while Rev. Bros. K.M. Joseph and M.A. George are present Provincials of Hyderabad and Pune Provinces respectively. It is also a matter of joy to place on record that Rt. Rev. Thumma Bala, our beloved Arch-Bishop, Rt. Rev. Govind Joji, Bishop of Diocese of Nalgonda and Rt. Rev. Gallada Prasad, Bishop of Diocese of Cuddapah are also alumni of this historic institution.

Thanks to the wisdom of our elders, way back in 1963 the school came out of grant-in-aid. Since then, it has had sustained both the media (English and Telugu) with two sections each for a long period, until its Golden Jubilee year. Led by expediency additional sections have been opened in English Medium, while with no takers around, the Telugu Medium is heading for its natural death with just the last 10th batch remaining to pass out. Meanwhile, the last academic year marked the full flowering of the high school with 5 SSC sections in English Medium with full strength in each of these sections.

55 years have come and gone and yet this institution stands out as the most sought after centre for learning as far as this district is concerned. If numerical strength is a yardstick to measure this institution’s relevance and efficacy in the education mission, it then must be mentioned that this school has acquired for the present a strength of 3000 plus.
