St. Mary's School, Keshwapur, Hubli

It was in 1890, St Mary’s School was established by a Jesuit Priest, a Christian soldier Rev.Fr.Leopaid. In 1940 St. Mary’s celebrated its golden jubilee under another Jesuit Priest Rev.Fr.A Rehm and in 1990 its centenary. Today we have reached another milestone i.e. 12 years of its existence. The school Logo “ LUCET SPED MUNUS” – Hope brightness labour – with this hope and determination the dedicated staff worked with untiring zeal to mould thousands of students giving the society committed scientists, doctors,engineers,statesmen, selfless teachers., responsible executives and excellent athletes.
This is the extolling history of 125 years of St Mary’s School. From its very inception in 1890. Upto 1914 St Mary’s was an a mixed school catering to both boys and girls, But co-education was frowned upon by authorities of that time and a complete separation was made and the girls were put under the care of Daughters of the cross of Sacred Heart Convent, Hubli. This separation of girls brought about a sudden decline for many years, the progress of the institution from 1890 to almost 1940 was very slow. It was indeed slow in strength of the students and infrastructure of the school also.
St Mary’s has seen 24 principals till date. All of them dedicated Priests to the cause of education and formation of best citizens. The year 1951 was remarkable in the history of St Mary’s Rev.Fr.D.A.Lobo took charge and brought plenty of changes in the school . He improved the financial position and infrastructure of the building. The present building is his prized work with high school classes. The most remarkable point was the academic section. The idea of cent percent results in the SSLC exams have become a lauded name of St Mary’s . Teachers and students worked hard to achieve this goal year after year under his able leadership. His other achievement was the formation of moral values and discipline which was ingrained in every student. Thus St. Mary’s School became the finest school in the state imparting sound intellectual, physical and moral education. it achieved progress in all extra curricular activities too. St.Mary’s gratefully remembers the service of Rev.Bro.Anthony Rocha SDB [1982-1989],a Silesian missionary from Bombay who brought revolutionary changes in the attitude of students. He was followed by Rev.Msgr.Lucio Mascarenhas [1989-1997] under whose initiative the centenary year [1990] was celebrated. During this time the second floor of the building was constructed commemorating the event. this construction was exclusively the gift of the alumni and donors .

The total strength of the students rapidly increasing alerted management to keep a check in order to take care of its academic quality and other facilities available. The primary school building is completely taken by the management to have their degree courses for the college-namely Fatima collage, for their courses like B.Com,BCA BBA.presently St.Mary’s School is under the administration of Rev.Fr.Felix Monteiro, a noble priest and a great taskmaster who loved challenges. It is his ardent desire and love for the catholic community of this area that he took up the challenge to guide St.Mary’s . True to the changes of the scientific world he introduced d Digital Learning system in all classes for all the subjects.CC cameras were installed in every class and in the corridors to monitor and check the behaviour of students. This instilled greater sense of discipline among the students. Teaching and learning is not only pleasure but also more effective and interesting for them. Instantly the principal can get the picture of the school just by the click of a button.
