St Agnes College is a catholic Minority Institution which form its inception has imparted higher education to the women of South India. It has ever since proved to be a standard bearer of repute in th field.

The instituition hs the distinction of producing women graduates who hold positions in different spheres as educators, scientists, chartered accountants, middle and higher-level management professionals and service professionals.

The College promotes sound social and family values that make for continuous internal upgradation, especially in the areas of teaching and learning, reasearch and publication, faculty improvement and extension activities. Honours Programmes, Certificate Courses and Minor Research projects, conducted on a regular basis, keep the staff ever alert to the contemporary needs of society and the demands of the job market. The College took the initiative of submitting itself to the accreditation process conducted by the NAAC. It was the first instituition in Mangalore University to do so. The College had the honour of being awarded a 'Five Star' grade. Following the re-accreditation process by the NAAC in 2005, the College earned an 'A' grade. It has, besides, been recognised as a 'College with Potential for Excellence' in 2006 and again in 2011 by the Post 'CPE' PHASE II grant by th U. G. C> and been the recipient of the 'Jimmy and Roselyn Carter Foundation Parternship Award' for its path breaking work in the field of watershed management which has greatly benefitted villages in the suburbs of Mangalore.

However, no institution committed to the cause of higher education can rest contended on its laurels. St. Agnes College is sensitively aware of this. Therfore to promote academic excellence in teaching and research, the Management of St. Agnes College has accepted the status of academic autonomy for the College since 2007. In the autonomous set up, the College is free to frame its own Syllabi for the various courses and adopt suitable innovative methods of Teaching, Learning and Evaluation. The Mangalore University confers the degree or gives the diploma to the qualified candidates presented by the College. The government will continue to provide financial assistance in this set up. With autonomy, the College will be more efficient to teach job oreinted subjects, conduct examinations and announce results within the prescribed structures of the Semester pattern.



MANAGEMENT:

The Apostolic Carmel is a congregation of sisters aggregated to the Order of Discalced Carmelites, founded in 1868 by Mother Veronica of the Passion at Bayonne and later established at Mangalore, India, in 1870. The sisters of the Apostolic Carmel run this institution.

LOCAL TITLE:

St.Agnes College was registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 under the title 'The Apostolic Carmel Educational Society' on the 12th February 1957.

St. Agnes College, Mangalore, Karnataka is one of the leading first grade colleges for women in South India. It is a Christian minority institution founded by Mother Mary Aloysia, in 1921, and managed by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel. Though it was founded primarily for the education of Catholic women, it has reached out to all sections of women in society. Over the years, it has grown steadily in strength and infrastructure and has stood the vicissitudes of higher education and has kept aloft its banner 'God is Our Strength'. The focus now is on student centered learning, throwing open newer avenues and challenging courses to suit the student community.

Campus Life:
The College offers the Semester degree programmes in B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.B.M., B.C.A. and B.S.W. In addition to these regular programmes, there is scope for students to choose from an array of Certificate or Diploma Courses. The Honours Programme is introduced to circulate research culture and earn extra credits.
Partnership with IGNOU & KSOU Study Centre:
The College has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IGNOU for a number of UG/PG and Certificate Courses. These are available to students as add on courses. The KSOU Study Centre offers BCA, MCA and Integrated MCA at St. Agnes College, Mangalore.
Education to be:
Everyday and each hour begins with a spiritual orientation of silence leading to prayer. One's attitude to the divine, in relation to God as Father is strengthened by the realization that we are his children. To live as worthy citizens and be effective role models to others. It is emphasized through the prayer over the PAS, weekly religion and moral science classes, value education classes and programmes pertaining to inter-religious peace and harmony.
Education to do:
Each (core) subject combination is supplemented amply by co-curricular and extra curricular programmes. Learning by doing encourage the students to plan, probe, verify, and experiment on a wide spectrum of issues. Dialogue, discussions and debates provide awareness for thinking and action.
