Vadakara

Vadakara or Badakara, formerly known as Vadakkekara (north shore) because of its position on the shores of the Kotakkal river ( Moorad river or Kuttiadi river), is a small coastal town located 48 km north of Kozhikode. It was the capital of old Kurumbranadu that was inhabited by the Kurumbrar tribal folk.Vadakara is famous as the birth place of Thacholi Othenan, the legendary hero of the ballads of North Malabar (Vadakkan pattukal). The Thacholi Tharavadu and Thacholi Manikkoth, the kalari where Thacholi Othenan practiced his martial feats and spent long days in deep meditation are places worth visiting. Kottakkal which was the birth place of Kunjali Marakkar, the admiral of the Zamorins who had resisted the Portuguese, is also at Vadakara. A small hut that belonged to Kunhali Marakkar with collections of ancient swords, canon balls and knives can be seen here.Kottakkal Bhagavathy temple, renowned for its Thera festival is in the heart of the town. The spiritual center, Sidhasramam that has many branches in and out side Kerala is also located at here.
Sargaalaya
Sargaalaya, the Kerala Arts and Crafts village at Iringal in Kerala is an initiative of the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala. The management of the village is vested in the hands of the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS). The wide range of products displayed here is crafted with different raw materials ranging from less expensive natural options to modern alloys. There are artifices designed with banana fibre, coir, bamboo, sand, coconut shells, husk, palm leaves, coconut leaves and screw-pine. . Its situated 10kms from our hotel
Kottiyoor
Described the Varanasi of the South, there are two temples at Kottiyoor called Akkara Kottiyoor and Ikkara Kottiyoor both in the deep forests. A sword, which is believed to have decapitated the mythical character Dakshan is brought to the Ikkara Kottiyoor temple from the Muthirikavu temple, which marks the beginning of the annual festival (May-June). Neyyattam and Elaneerattam (literally meaning pouring of ghee and tender coconut water) are special ceremonies connected with the festival. Its situated 75kms from our hotel.
Muzhappilangad beach

Payyoli Beach
Payyoli Beach, is yet another beautiful stretch of golden sands with shallow waters that border Velliyamkallu in Kozhikode. It is situated 12kms from our hotel.

Peralassery Subramania Temple
Peralassery Subramania temple is believed to be where Rama and Lakshmana halted on their way to Sri Lanka to rescue Sita. Lord Subrahmanya, son of Lord Siva, is the presiding deity of this temple. The temple also has a shrine for the serpent God and has a number of bronze and copper idols of snakes. The annual festival of the temple is celebrated for eight days. Kathakali, Chakyarkoothu, Ottanthullal, Parayan Thullal and Seethankan Thullal are the main art-forms performed during the festival. Another important concert during the festival is a highly religious dance, ' Thidampunritham' performed by the priest.Temple Timings: 0400 - 1600 hrs. It is situated 35kms from our hotel.
Anjarakandy
Anjarakandy, a village well-known for its Cinnamon estate. The 1000 acre estate, set up by the British in 1797 comprises of coffee, pepper and sandal wood plants. The estate was destroyed during the fight between Pazhassiraja and the British in the year 1803 and was later revived. It is situated 40kms from our hotel.
Thikkoti Light House
The 33.5m high light house, erected in 1847, is situated in Thikodi. The lighthouse which overlooks the massive rock, Velliyamkallu off Moodadi coast was built after a shipwreck, the remains of which can still be seen here. The region around the Velliyamkallu rock is the transit home of migratory birds. Climbing the winding stairs of the light house is an amazing experience and the view of the Arabian Sea from the top is awesome. . It is situated 15kms from our hotel.

Lokanarkavu Temple
Lokanarkavu temple which is associated with the heroes and heroines of the Vadakkanpattu combines an arresting simplicity and a legendary aura. Dedicated to Goddess Durga known by the name Lokanarkavil Amma, this temple is situated at Memunda, 4 km from Vadakara town .Apart from the main shrine which is believed to be more than 1500 years old, there are two more shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Vishnu. A notable feature in the temple premises is the three rock cut caves artfully engraved with beautiful carvings and fascinating murals. This temple is said to be in Athythama state while most of the other Goddess temples in Kerala are in Madhyama and rarely in Uthama state. The temple is open to the devotees from 5 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm every day.
Two festivals are celebrated here annually in the Malayalam months of Vrischikam (November-December) and Meenam (March/April).Pooram that is celebrated in March- April is a week long festival which begins with Kodiyettam (flag hoisting) and concludes with Arattu. Mandala Utsavam alias Mandalavilakku festival held in Vrischikam is the major festival that lasts for 41 days. Thacholikali, a peculiar folk dance that resembles the martial art Kalarippayattu, is performed during the festival by a group of people known as Theeyampadi Kurup.
The legendary martial hero, Thacholi Othenan was a great devotee of the goddess 'Lokanarkavil Amma'. He used to seek her blessings before going for any duel, and even today Kalaripayattu artists seek her blessings before their debut. . It is situated 4 kms from our hotel.

Murad River
The 74 km long Murad River also known as kuttiadypuzha comprise a total area of 583 sq.kms along with its tributaries. Onipuzha, Thottilpalam puzha, Vamathil puzha and the Mandapalli puzha are the main tributaries of the river. Murad river originates from the Narikkotta ranges on the Western slops of Wayanad hills, a part of Western Ghat and flows through Vadakara, Koyilandi and Kozhikode taluks. It merges into the Arabian Sea at the historical Kottakal Fort which is about 7 km south of Vadakara.
Kolavipalam Beach

Also known as ‘Turtle beach’. Kolavipalam beach at the south of Murad River is at a distance of 4 km from Kottakal and few meters away from Payyoli beach. The famous Olive Ridley turtles can be seen frequent in the vast stretch of beach sand especially during the nesting season; i.e in September. It is situated 9kms from our hotel.
PAYAMKUTTI MALA
It is also called as SREE MUTHAPPANMALA. This place is 5.5 kms from vadakara. The temple is open to the devotees from 5 am to 7 am and 4.30 pm to 7 pm every day. Festival are celebrated here annually in the Malayalam months of Makaram 1, 2 , 3 dates. There is a telescope tower from where we can see entire vadakara town and wyanad churam . It is a beautiful place to view sun rise and sun set. . It is situated 8kms from our hotel.
