Solar, Erode

Solar is a selection Grade residential town located 6 km from Erode Junction, Tamil Nadu, India. The town is well known for the Temple of Lord Muruga at Lakkapuram Hill. Solar includes the geographical area that is now called as "Solar Junction" and the area that surrounds the Karur Highway Road till Transport Nagar. It is said that the scientific-sounding name was derived from the name of a natural fibre rope producing factory called "Solar Ginning Factory" in the same locality. The factory has shut down and the buildings were used as Godowns. Recently a yarn business unit is running up there.GeographySolar is surrounded by Vendipalayam in the north, Lakkapuram in the south-west and Transport Nagar in the south-east. Solar (including Solarpudur) is now part of Erode city. This area was proposed for the upcoming new Mofussil Bus Terminus for the south-bound buses, to reduce the burden in Central Bus Terminus. The exact location of the Bus Terminus is still not clearly announced. But it is said that the location near Solar R.T.O. and the place near the Vendipalayam Railway bridge are under consideration. The arterial road connecting Erode Central Bus Station to the southern Tamil Nadu, runs through the heart of the town. It is a developing area due to the initiation of various educational institutions and group of Industries.Solar JunctionThe area received its name due to the physical road junction of two major roads at this location. One of the branches leads towards "Karur" and the other towards "Moolanur". It is called as Solar Pirivu in Tamil.Solar CornerSolar Corner is about one kilometer away from Solar Junction. The Karur and Moolanur Highways joins at Solar junction and passes towards solar corner as a single highway for about 1 km. At solar corner, again two major road splits and both enters into the city. One which passes through Carmel, bypass kollampalayam and reaches Moolapalayam Petrol Bunk. And the other road passes through Nilgiris, Vendipalayam, Periyar Hall and reaches Panneer selvam Park
