More about Society for Social Regeneration & Equity

Society for Social Regeneration & Equity (SSRE) is a Non-Governmental Organization (established in September 2013), registered under the Societies Act No. 21, 1860 (Registration number: 1551-2013-2014), based in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and active in other parts of India. It works for human rights, with particular focus on women & child, minorities and the marginalized, excluded and underprivileged sections of society, and for the promotion of interfaith amity & cross-cultural understanding. Other objectives of the organization are, promoting art and culture, protecting the environment and providing training for self-employment (entrepreneurship) and rural development.

Still in its infancy, the organization intends to create awareness of the rights of women and minorities by holding workshops at educational institutions across India and also by organizing conferences, seminars, symposia, colloquia and lectures, highlighting the problems of Indian society and exploring the possibilities of their resolution through quickened dialogue and discussion. In its pursuit to do so, SSRE also intends to conduct academic research in relevant fields of study.

Adopting a cultural and educational approach to much of its outreach work, SSRE plans to screen films and hold book readings and poetry recitations at educational institutions across India promoting social harmony and cross cultural and international dialogue, creating awareness of the dangerous consequences of the rise of communalism and intolerance towards minorities, and educating people about different communities for the breaking of stereotypes.

SSRE has just entered into a partnership with “It Could Be You”, a cross-platform campaign to raise awareness of violence against women, led by a group of students from the Media School at Bournemouth University, United Kingdom.

Until now it has organized a Free Legal Advice Camp at Lucknow, a panel on the Portrayal of Religious Minorities in Hindi Fiction at Lucknow, at which it honoured the only Jewish writer in Hindi, Sheela Rohekar, an international conference with participants from 15 different countries in association with Jindal University, Sonipat and a Free Medical Checkup and Medicine Distribution Camp at Assam, a musical evening in memory of Danial Pearl at Kolkata about which one can read on its blog: http://socialregenerationandequity.blogspot.in/. Besides this SSRE regularly provides absolutely free legal consultation on issues related to women's property rights in India and actively work for the economic empowerment of women.
