What is Sitara Studio?
Sitara Studio is an independently-run arts and cultural venue in the heart of Mumbai, aspiring to programme internationally acclaimed yet locally relevant content.
We have two separate spaces to offer: a performance area for theatre, music, dance and art related activities; and a mezzanine level where artistes can rehearse. We take pride in our humble location, employ people from the locality, and maintain good relations with our neighbours.
What’s Taken Place Here?
In the past, we have hosted HeLa, a play from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival brought down by the British Council and theatre company QTP. H20, a German play by Helios Theatre was brought to Sitara Studio by the Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai and Junoon.
We have also worked with clients such as the Asia Society, India Foundation for the Arts, MTV Coke Studio, Nirbhaya – the play directed by Yael Farber, Only Much Louder, Oranjuice Entertainment, Sony Music, Red Bull, Budweiser and artists like Karsh Kale and Vishal Dadlani (Pentagram). In July 2015, we will host a prestigious international exhibition that will be brought down by one of the biggest Consulates in the country.
At Sitara Studio, we dream of curating culturally-relevant and thought-provoking content. Our most recent success was curating and recreating T2F (the Karachi-based venue The 2nd Floor) at Sitara Studio for an evening. The programme was in memory of Sabeen Mahmud, the murdered peace activist who ran T2F in Karachi, Pakistan. We are also working on Tamhini, a long-term programming initiative that showcases hybrid and contemporary regional arts.
