Shree Amrutheshwara Higher Primary School

The Janu Shetty Memorial Educational And Charitable Trust® was founded with a simple yet profound vision of providing basic primary education to the local children and empowering them for a brighter future. The only school which existed in Vamanjoor, mangalore had been shifted 35 years ago to another location which was about 2 km away, making it very inconvenient for the children to attend school. Attributing to difficult terrain and poor infrastructure the incidence of dropouts had augmented and needed rectification.
Shree Janu Shetty an illiterate farmer of the area sensed this need and envisioned a place where the local children could get easy access to education once again without compromising on the quality of education, safety or convenience. He strongly desired for the school to be rebuilt in the vicinity. Unfortunately, he passed away in 1985 before his dream could turn into reality.
However, his son Shree Sitaram J Shetty took upon himself to shape this vision into reality. The connect to this cause was instant since he himself had been an ex student of the same pprimary school,however he could not continue his secondary schooling there due to abject poverty. Circumstances led him to drop out and move to Mumbai to make ends meet.
The interesting fact to be recognized here is that everything given here is free of cost. Not a single rupee is collected from the students.
Entire funding is managed by Mr Sitaram Shetty and by benevolent sponsors.
Cultural activities are also given high ppreference. Every year during the annual festival of SHREE AMRUTHESHWARA TEMPLE, the students present cultural programme,which include bharatanatyam and a yakshagana play.
Every year the school publishes its annual magazine called “AMRUTHA VAHINI”, comprising poems, stories, drawings, articles etc. written by the students.
Another interesting fact of the school is the students and teachers are served free lunch every day sponsored by donors.
In 2012 the school got its ISO 9001:2008 certification
The school is approved by the education department government of Karnataka. Against all odds the institution has remained true to its cause of imparting free and quality primary education to unprivileged poor students till date
