Rishi Shalihotra,first veterinarian.Rishi Shalihotra (.2350BCE) is the founder of veterinary science.He lived in Sravasti on the boarder of Gonda and Bahraich districts of Uttar Pradesh.Rishi Shalihotra's principal work was a large treatise on the care and management of horses.The Shalihotra Samhita is having 12000 shlokas in sanskrit.It has been translated in Persian,Arabic,Tibelan and English languages.This work defines equine and elephant anatomy,physiology,surgery and diseases with their curative and preventive measures.Two other work namely Asva-prashansa and Asvs-lakshana sashtram are also attributed to Rishi Shalihotra.Rishi Sushrut took the veterinary education under Rishi Shalihotra.Rishi Sushrut is considered as first known surgeon on earth.A conference hall at college of veterinary science and A.H.is named upon Rishi Shalihotra.
