Sampurna

It is a day care centre started in the year 2001, caters to children with intellectual disabilities and provides academic, vocational, medical and psychological support to children belonging to lower socio-economic strata of the society. These children reside in the slums of Hyderabad and their parents make a living by working as rickshaw pullers, domestic helpers, motor mechanics, hotel servers and so on.
Based on the needs assessment, Sampurna provides a range of services such as special education, speech therapy, physio-therapy, assistive devices, surgical corrections and vocational skill training.
Sampurna provides individual attention to the children where in every child's needs are catered. Children are classified according to the nature and severity of the disabling condition such as mild/moderate/severe, downs syndrome, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, birth asphyxia, hyperactive etc. and also on the basis of the progress achieved in attending to daily routine activities, etiquette, conversation, group compatibility etc.
Education and training to the intellectually challenged children include teaching self help skills( such as brushing, bathing, eating, grooming), fine and gross motor coordination which can help the children be as independent as possible. Apart from teaching personal hygiene and toilet training, the centre also provides skill training in arts and crafts to the older children.
