BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FORMATION OF
ST. JOSEPH’S HIGH SCHOOL, KHANUSA, VIJAPUR



The founder of St. Joseph’s School, Khanusa, is

Mr. PETER PULLAMBRA.

Mr. Peter Pullambra started his career as a teacher in 1969 at St. Michael's School, Kannur, Kerala soon after completing his B.Sc. (Physics) from St. Joseph’s College, Calicut, KERALA.

Teaching was Mr. Peter’s passion. This passion for teaching took Mr. Peter Pullambra from Kerala to West Bengal, where he taught at Durgapur and Calcutta. From Calcutta, he left for Mount Abu (Rajasthan) in 1972, to teach at St. Mary’s School.

On 2nd October, 1973, he felt that he should start his own school and by March 1974, he started St. Joseph’s School, a residential primary school, in a rented building at Mt. Abu. Though Mr. Peter had bought 4 acres of land at Mount Abu, the authorities didn't grant permission to build a school there. In the late 70s, Mt. Abu was facing a severe shortage of water and electricity which prompted him to look at alternative place.

The hostel had many students from and around Vijapur and some parents like – Mr. Maganbhai Patel, Mr. Mohanbhai Patel, Mr. Dahyabhai Patel, Mr. Trikambhai Patel, Mr. Kantibhai Patel & Dr. A. K. Patel, prompted Mr. Peter to come and see the Pilvai College hostel buildings of which 2 blocks having 22 rooms each, a spacious dining hall and a kitchen. The playground, building, 24 hours of water and electricity supply prompted Mr. Peter to start the school, ST. JOSEPH’S SCHOOL at PILVAI in March, 1980.

In 1987, the school purchased the present land and started building its own campus in which the high school and the higher secondary school was shifted in June, 1992. Subsequently, with the hostel building also coming up in the school campus at Khanusa, the Primary school too was shifted in June, 1997.
