SAHYA ARTS & SCIENCE COLLEGE
Sahya Arts and Science College, Wandoor, Malappuram district, in Kerala state established in the year 2013 is under the aegis of Sahya tourism and Pravasi co-operative society limited. The College has got administrative sanction and no objection from the Government of Kerala and on the basis of that the University of Calicut has granted affiliation for starting five under graduate courses for the year 2013-14. The college has adequate infrastructure and sufficient funds and is keen in growing into an institute of higher learning and standard. The construction of the college building has begun in a naturally beautiful and eco friendly land near the old railway station in Vellampuram, five kilometers away from Wandoor. The land is spread over a vast sprawling square area of five acres with calm surroundings creating a fitting atmosphere for study.

The first stage of the construction will hold 32 classrooms, office, staff room, labs and other resources. The management consists of high dignitaries who, within a short span of time, have already availed the affiliation of the University of Calicut and sanction of the Government of Kerala. The first batch of classes will start in temporary classrooms with all the facilities and resources in the building which stands in the Kalikavu road, a stone throw away from Wandoor junction. This building also holds Sahya’s office.
JUSTIFICATION
Malappuram district in Kerala state has a poor track record of government and quasi government employees due to its lack of excellent educational institutions. Nilambur Taluk and East Ernad region, in particular has very few higher educational institutions. The need for progress especially in the field of education has gained more importance in the present era, as more and more people in the region are looking forward to finding job overseas. It is a dream of the people in Wandoor to see the rise of an educational Institution in the area that can render quality higher education to the people. Sahya Arts and Science College is a humble yet deliberate initiative to fulfill this dream of the people in and around Wandoor.

Sahya Arts and Science College through its excellent staff aims to mould the younger generation into qualified and responsible citizens with deep values who can contribute to the progress of the nation. We aim to be a unique institution by rendering several vocational courses that will enable the students to increase the employability. The institution aims at providing quality education to the young generation with the help of carefully selected, competent and qualified staff who has a track record of meritorious accomplishment to their credit.

Sahya Arts and Science College is all set to take start its five under graduate courses for the academic year 2013-14. We have already sieved out competent staff who are well qualified and experienced with track record of meritorious accomplishment to their credits. The class rooms, resources and the infrastructure are all set and we assure that the college will create a unique standard in higher education which will equip the students to face the challenges in life with dignity. We envisage the college to be a centre of intellectual energy, creativity, learning, and bonding.

Education is a powerful tool for social, economic and cultural transformation which transforms a person to live a better life and more importantly as a social well being. It educates us with all the needed attributes to lead the life in a better way. ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL
Dr. A.M. Antony
Principal - Sahya Arts and Science College
(Associate Professor (Rtd) - MES Mampad College)
Dr A M Antony worked for 30 years in five colleges under the University of Calicut. He retired from MES Mampad College as Associate Professor on 31st March 2013. His effectiveness as a true academician and strict disciplinarian have been felt in the colleges he has worked for.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Calicut after which he took to the track of physical education. He graduated with a bachelors and masters degree In physical education from the university of Mysore and took a diploma in athletics from Nethaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Bangalore. In 2004, he has been awarded Doctoral Degree in health Related Physical Fitness from the University of Calicut.

Currently he is a research Guide in physical education and sports sciences in various universities (Bharthiyar University , Karpugan University, Coimbatore and Mahathama Gandhi University, Kottayam) and a number of scholars are pursuing PhD under his supervision.

He was the member of UG and PG board of studies of the University of Calicut for a span of 7 years, and subject expert for interviews. His relentless effort and meticulous work along with the team of experts led to the introduction of Physical Education as an Open Course in the newly introduced Choice Based Credit and semester system in the University of Calicut in the year 2010.

He got the best paper award in the international conference organized by the Alagappa University in 2010. He has presented papers in five international seminars and 13 national seminars. He was the Editor of “Voice of Sports “ (ISSN allotted and RNI recognized research journal on physical education and sports .) for seven years . He has also authored five books and seven articles in research journal till date. He has released an exercise DVD entitled ‘Stay Fit Programme’ in 2012.

Apart from academics he is also a well known figure in the field of martial arts. He is an international instructor in Taekwondo with 6th Degree Black belt. Some of the international championships that he officiated includes the championships at Pyongyang, North Korea in 2011 and in Dubai in 2008.
