Room to Read was founded on the belief that “World Change Starts with Educated Children.® We envision a world in which all children can pursue quality education that enables them to reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world. Room to Read India is a part of a global network that includes program operations in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania. Since our inception in 2003, we have touched the lives of millions of young children across nine states: Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra.
To ensure our programs have the greatest reach and impact, we build strong partnerships with local governments, communities, and non-governmental organizations. Targeting children in the age group 6-18 years, in both rural and urban settings, our partners help us implement our work and contribute to our success.
Room to Read’s literacy initiatives are designed to address a range of educational needs for turning children into independent learners with a promising future. Our Girls’ Education program (GEP) seeks to ensure that girls complete secondary school and have the skills to negotiate key life decisions.
