Journey Through Time

Although the school was established in 1884 and has already made a sojourn of 128 years, PRAKTANI is comparatively young in age. Ex-students of the school had always desired to sip in the cup of sweet memories of their school days and nurture an emotional feeling of their companionship with the class mates as well as fond interactions with their esteemed teachers all through their life. Nostalgic reminiscences of school life often haunt many of them to meet their school fellows from time to time.


1956 to 2008: A Long Story

With this cherished dream of re-union, some ex-students of the school organized their first re-union on a winter day of 1956 under the initiative and leadership of Late Dulal Chandra Ghosal, the then Headmaster and late Anadi Ghosal, the then Secretary of the school , both being alumni of the school. Other alumni like Late Shyam Mohon Tapaswi, Late Dwarikanath Mukherjee, Late Arun Banerjee, Late Ajoy Ghosal and others, spontaneously collaborated and co-operated with them in their venture of organizing the re-union. Inspired by the grand success of the first reunion, they organized the second one in December, 1958. But owing to various reasons, the endeavour to organise the meet of ex-students on a regular basis did not succeed. Nevertheless, the sweet memory of the said reunions remained alive in the minds of many ex-students.

It was on the 7th of January, 1984 that the re-union of ex-students of the school was organized again as a part of the centenary celebrations of the school. Meanwhile, young generations of ex-students craved for a permanent platform for them in the school to meet together annually with a spirit of doing something for their Alma-Mater. With this object in mind, the Centenary Celebration Committee appealed to the Managing Committee of the school seeking permission to organise and setup the Alumni Association in the school premises. The permission was granted. The Alumni Association named PRAKTANI was set up on 21st February, 1987. Since then, the annual meet and reunion of ex-students of the school was being held on the second Sunday of February each year till 1998. Unfortunately, PRAKTANI remained dormant for a few years till it was revived in 2008 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary celebration of the school and has been functioning steadily since then.
