History

This institution is located in Hazaribag town since 1912 and is spread over in an area of about 17 acres. Its buildings are located at different places in the town. Main administrative buildings, Class rooms, I.E.D. Model Room, Maps and Planning Room, Simulation Room, Forensic Science Lab., Computer Class Room, SATS room, Library, M.T. workshop and Stables are all located in one campus, which is on the northern side of Hazaribag-Bagodar road, while the parade ground is located on the southern side of the road. Mess No. 1, which is meant for the gazetted officers of and above the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police is located at about half a kilometre away from the main building. Mess No. 2, in which officers of the rank of A.S.I. up-to Inspectors stay, is about two furlongs from the main building. Matriculate constables, who come for the promotion course to the rank of ASI also stay in this mess subject to the availability of accommodation, otherwise they stay in the barracks of Shri Krishna Arakshi Bal Vidyalaya which is located at about half a km from the main building. Residential accommodations are also located at different places in the town.

Survey of the existing buildings would reveal that the main administrative buildings is more than 125 years old. Other buildings of the institution are also very old. Training needs have grown manifold. Hence a new Training Complex for proposed "JHARKHAND POLICE ACADEMY" has come up by the side of the National Highway, a little away from the Circuit House, which can accommodate the administrative wing, class rooms, room for the members of the Faculty, Library, Computer Room, Cafeteria, Auditorium F.S Lab, Map Reading Room, Simulation Room, Small Arm Fire Simulation Room etc. The new building has been furnished. It is expected to go function at very soon.

P.T.C. has been conducting basic and in-service courses for the officers which include two weeks attachment course for IPS Probationers, basic training course for Dy.S.P., Sub-Inspectors and induction courses for ASIs. Short duration specialised courses like Training of Trainers, Computer awareness, Atrocities against weaker sections, Scientific aid to investigation, Attitudinal change, I.E.D., Human Rights and Police, Departmental enquiries, Art of interrogation, Gender sensitisation etc are also being conducted. With the appointment of Brig. (Retd.) Govind Ji Mishra, VSM as D.I.G. (Training), Jharkhand "Anti-Extremist, field tactics" of 3 week duration has been introduced in this institution and officers from ASI to Dy.S.P. rank, are being trained since September 2005 continuously.

A two weeks course on "Anti-Extremist Operations, Maps and Planning" has been introduce for Addl. SsP and senior Dy.Ss.P.
