Palakol or Palakollu is a town in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The population of Palakollu is about 57,317

History:
Palakol or Palakollu was originally known as Kshiraramam or Kshirapuram or Palakolanu or Upamanyapuram.

In 1652, the Dutch built their first Indian factory at Palakollu. Palakollu is also known as Trilinga Desam, the region bounded by three lingas(Srisailam,Draksharamam and Kaleswaram)


Palakollu municipality:
The Palakollu Municipality was established in the year 1920. It is second municipality in West Godavari after Eluru. It is a first grade municipality with a population of about 75000.


Assembly Constituency:
Palakollu Assembly constituency is one among 15 constituencies in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, India.

In Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, 2014 Nimmala Rama Naidu from Telugu Desam Party has been elected as MLA.


Agriculture:
Palakollu is surrounded by paddy fields and coconut groves. The town is also famous for Pamparapanaasa or pomelo fruit. Palakollu has one of the largest number of rice mills.

Transport:
Buses operated by APSRTC and private travel agencies run from Palakollu to Hyderabad, Vizag, Vijayawada and Tirupati. Three express trains service the town, which is on the Narsapur – Vijayawada railway route.[4] A bridge was built on Vasista Godavari near Chinchinada 7 km away from Palakollu connecting East Godavari & West Godavari Districts of Andhra Pradesh, which makes it a part of National Highway 214.

Toursim:
Lalita Kalanjali Nataka Academy supported by famous film artist and director Kodi Ramakrishna conducts Nataka Potilu (Drama Competitions) every year, which are famous in the state.

Ksheera Rama Lingeswara Swami Temple with its 36.6 Mts high Tower (Pedha Gopuram). It was built by the reddy rajulu who ruled this place during 15th century,[5] as a 15th-century temple for Shiva. It is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras.[6]

Ashtabhuja Lakshmi Narayana Swami Temple which is known for its traditions and festivities like Bhramostavam draw large number of devotees from all over the town. Dhanurmasam is celebrated in the month of December in the remembrance of love of Andaal for Lord Sri Krishna.
