HIGHLIGHTS ABOUT NORTH EAST FARMERS’ FEDERATION
AND ITS OBJECTIVES:

Introduction:
The formation of the North East Farmers’ Federation was conceived by a few people from the State of Mizoram who have deeply involved themselves with dedication and concerned for the upliftment of the Farmers of North Eastern Region. With the initiative of the Office bearers of All Mizoram Farmer’s Union (AMFU), the North East Farmers’ Federation (NEFF) was launched on 5th December 2012 at Aizawl.

The present Office bearers are as follows:-

1. Dr. Y. Y. Kikon, Retd. Director of Horticulture, Nagaland : President
2. Mr. Tonia Langkam, Chairman, Future Vision, A/ Pradesh : Vice-President
3. Mr. Tambor Lyngdoh Meghalaya : Vice President
4. Mr. Dilip Kumar Bhandari Sikkim : Vice President
5. Mr. Zion Lalremruata, General Secretary, AMFU, Mizoram : Secretary General
6. Mr. Rokobikho Savino, Secretary, CONFU, Nagaland : Asst.Secretary General
7. Mr. Mankumar Debbarma, Member, Tripura Tribal Farmers Club: Secretary(Finance)
8. Mr. P. L. Thanga, IAS (Retd), Ex. Secretary, NEC, Mizoram : Advisor.

The main Objectives:-

1. To foster unity, mutual understanding and co-operation among the Member representatives from different States in the interest of empowering the Farmers of the Region.

2. To safeguard, protect and promote the collective interests of the Farmers by linking them with wider market accessibility.

3. To identify the potential projects in the Region and provide support with recommendation for success.

4. To advocate the ways and means of conservation of valuable and endangered Flora and Fauna of the Region.

5. To strive to solve the problems of Marketing of Agriculture and allied produce, thereby raising the socio-economic status of the rural people.

6. To launch promotional activities and stimulate public / private investment for establishment of small and medium enterprises based on Agricultural produce, for generation of income and employment in the rural areas.

7. To help provide affordable services to Farmers, Processors and Exporters of Agriculture and allied produce, through training/seminar and other follow up support.

8. To oversee all the important Projects and Schemes under Agriculture and allied sectors of NER for proper implementation and transparency for the benefit of the targeted Farmers in particular.


Membership eligibility:-

i) The State/ District level Farmers Union/ Club /Corporate/NGOs/Association/Semi Govt. Organisation/Registered Society etc. can become a member by paying an annual fee of Rs.5000/- only.

ii) Ordinary member: Any person who regularly pays his or her annual membership fee of Rs.200/- and Rs.100/- as admission fee at the initial stage.

iii) “Life Member”:

a). Any person can become a Life Member by paying Rs.5000/- only.

b). Life Member fee under the categories of Sl.No. i) above shall be Rs.15,000/- and above depending on the volume of its activities.

iv). Patrons : Any individual/Institution/Society/NGO making a one time payment of Rs.20,000/- and above shall become a Patron of the Federation.

v). Associate Member: All the students of Agriculture and allied College/University/Institute shall be entitled to associate membership on payment of an amount equal to half of ordinary membership fee per annum.

vi). Honorary member: Executive Council may time to time elect a reputed Agriculturist and its allied field, within and/or outside the Region/Country as an Honorary member.
