Nilambur KFRI Teak Museum

The Kerala Forest Research Institute has developed about 10 ha of land into a Bioresources Nature Park (BNP) at its Sub Centre at Nilambur. Set up with the financial assistance from the Union Department of Biotechnology and the State Planning and Economic Affairs of the State Government, the Nature Park has several conservation theme areas for the Pteridophytes, plants found in special ecological niche such as Xerophytes (cacti & succulents) and Hydrophytes (aquatic plants), beneficial plants (eg: Medicinal plants) and ornamental plants (eg: Orchids), with special reference to endemic and rare, endangered and threatened (RET) species. An entire plot of land is devoted to palms, rattans and gymnosperms. The Butterfly Garden and the Taxonomic Garden add to the attraction. The park is visited by hundreds of students every day, and for them the park provides live specimen of plant wealth of which their books talk of. Apart from this, the park also attracts people from various walks of life, who are keen to acheive knowledge and recreation.
