Newa Lahana

Newa Lahana also known as Newa Civilization is a traditional local newari restaurant and museum run by the inhabitants of Thambahal tole. 65 families(house) of the community has contributed items or are socially engaged in order to develop and preserve newar culture. The profits from the restaurant is utilized to benefit the community. The four storey building has traditional floor seating arrangement of sukul (weaved hay mat) and cushions inspired by haku patasi (Black sari).
The partly pictorial menu are helpful for those new to newari food, the menu is listed in Nepali, Newari and English. The attendants are friendly and would happily offer help if you are confused. Quick service and some of the items spice level might make you want to hit the roof . The delicacies are freshly made and authentically served on brass plates. 'Durupa' the thinly sliced meat is tender and spicy. 'Newa Lahana special wine' the five volume categorised newari wine are the popular best sellers served on clay cups from anti (container which holds ayela) goes well with the food.
