Navtara

The year 1986. Founder Carlos Tavora, born and raised in a Goan Catholic family, decided to cater to an increasing demand for vegetarian food in Goa which was clearly becoming one of the most sought after holiday destinations in the country. Uninitiated in both, the cuisine and the restaurant line, he set up Navtara, no mean feat for an ambitious, then paint-salesman, fresh off his MBA.
The budding entrepreneur boldly raised the shutters to his 150 seat South Indian restaurant on August 22, 1986. His keen eye for detail and dedicated discipline rubbed off on the establishment, making it a trusted household name for locals and tourists alike.
Fast forward 11 years. In 1997, Navtara was renovated as a Multi Cuisine Vegetarian restaurant, revamping and expanding its menu to offer Punjabi, Mughlai, Goan, Chinese, North and South Indian fare to its patrons. This remains the present model, replicated in our expansion starting with our Mapusa restaurant in 2005 and the many more that have followed across the state of Goa.
