The company was established in the year 1931 by Mr. Nathmull Sarda who migrated from Rajasthan and started trading in Tea and various other commodities. The next decade saw his only son Mr. Nandlall Sarda taking interest in the marketing of tea. Initially, the business in Tea basically, wholesale supplies to Tea buyers in Calcutta and other places, since at that time, the Auction system was not very common and lots of buyers used to deal with the wholesalers or plantatiuons. Thus, Mr. Sarda gradually built up a very good relationship with many of the prominent Tea Plantations. He then opened a modest store at a prominent location on Laden la Road in Darjeeling and ventured into retailing of Darjeeling Teas.
The third generation of the family stepped in from 1968, after the premature demise of Mr. Nandlall sarda. His eldest son, Mr. Vijay Sadra took up the reigns and began concerntrating on the Tea Business. Gradually, the clientele grew and soon, the NATHMULL TEA ROOM became the most popular outlet selling Darjeeling Teas.
