Proddutur is the second largest town and an urban agglomeration in Kadapa district.The town is referred to as the “Second Bombay” because of the volume of gold and cotton business that happens there and as "Second Mysore" because of the grand Dasara festival celebrations.[4]
According to 2011 census, it has a population of more than 150,000 in the town and more than 200,000 in the metropolitan area.[5] The town is a Grade I municipal corporation[6] and is located 51 kilometers (32 mi) away from the district capital, Kadapa.
Proddatur is on the banks of river Penna. Its neighboring towns include Mydukur, Duvvur, Jammalamadugu, Yerraguntla and Korrapadu.
