Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam National Park with undulating hills and high altitude shola and grass lands with cliffs and valleys is a visual splendour in the Western Ghats and it is the ideal habitat of the endemic Nilgiri Tahr, Nigiritragus hylocrius. Largest viable population of Nilgiri Tahr exists here. Anamudi, the highest peak in Western Ghats and the only known distributional range of Raorchestes resplendense, an endemic frog species, is in this National Park.

CHINNAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

A unique ecosystem in the rain shadow region of Western Ghats formed mainly of dry deciduous forests. The riverine forest patches of the sanctuary is the habitat of endemic and endangered Grizzled Giant Squirrel. Chinnar is a paradise for birders and butterfliers.


KURINJIMALA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

A sanctuary for the conservation of Neelakurinji (Nilgirianthus kunthianus), a shrubby flowering plant. Neelakurinji which blooms once in twelve years, forming a blanket of bluish flowers over the high altitude hills, a marvel which attracts thousands.The sanctuary contiguous with Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, anamudi shola National Park and Pambadum shola national Park in Kerala nad Anamala Tiger Reserve in Tamilnadu forms a vast stretch of landscape signifcant in conservation.

IDUKKI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
idukkiThe sanctuary is isolated forest tract between the Munnar Hills and Periyar Tiger Reserve, encircling the Idukki Reservoir. It harbours an isolated population of elephants. The Arch Dam constructed across the river Periyar is the first of its kind in the country.




THATTEKKAD BIRD SANCTUARY

The forest tract admired by late Dr. Salim Ali, attracted by its rich avifaunal diversity, during the early 20th century. The sanctuary is significant as a breeding place of the endangered Ceylon Frogmouth.



PAMBADUM SHOLA NATIONAL PARK

A representative patch of high altitude shola forests. Wide presence of Parantica nilgiriensis, an IUCN listed butterfly species, is noted in this hilly forest tract.
MATHIKETTAN SHOLA NATIONAL PARK

The Park represents reminiscent of pristine forests which was part of the Cardomom Hill Reserve Forests. It is an important elephant corridor within the Anamudi Elephant Reserve.
ANAMUDI SHOLA NATIONAL PARK
cyathiaIt is one of the largest shola forest ecosystem in the country with unique biodiversity, free from human settlements. Vide presence of the tree fern species, Cyathia crenulata is an attraction of this forest.
