Mineral Engineering Society, IIT ISM, Dhanbad

Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, was established in 1926 on the pattern of Royal School of Mines. London to cater to the demand of mining professionals in India. For more than eight decades ISM Dhanbad has produced a large number of engineers. scientists and technocrats who hold key positions in industry, academia and in public service throughout the world.

The Department of Fuel and Mineral Engineering was founded in 1976 to address the processing specific issues of minerals and fuel. The department started with master's program in 1976 and subsequently launched a graduate degree program in 1984 with a grant from the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. This unique program has produced graduates who are well absorbed in the industry by organisations like CIL, HZL, NMDC, SAIL, Tata Steel, Monnet Ispat, Aryan Coal Beneficiation, JSPL and JSW among others. Other major recruiters of Mineral Engineering graduates include BHP Billiton, Evalueserve, PWC, Outotec, Metso Minerals, Hatch, Bateman, Humboldt Wedag, McNally
Bharat, MN Dastur etc.

The department now also offers dual degree courses by adding MBA and M.Tech. to the B. Tech. Program. The admission to B. Tech. and Dual Degree courses is through IIT-JEE (Mains + Advanced) ; in M.Tech. courses through GATE or ISM Entrance Exam; and in PhD through internal evaluation system.
