According to legends, Lord Hanuman came in dream of one of his devotee and indicated him about this place and asked him to start worshipping here and heal people suffering from diseases and evil sprites, but priest was unable to locate the exact place due to dense forest and wild animals.
Later, he started worshipping Lord Hanuman in the form of Balaji maharaj and after many days, Lord Hanuman appeared in his dream again and showed him path to reach the place. Since then priest and people started worshipping here at Mehandipur Balaji Temple and devotees started visiting this temple for their healing.
It is said that Lord Hanuman appeared first on Aravalli Hills then Pret Raj and in last Lord Bhairava appeared in this same area. Lord Hanuman requested Lord Pret Raj Sarkar (king of evil spirits) and Bhairava (kotval kaptan, head of army) to stay at this place and heal the humans suffering from evils and diseases.
