എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിൽ കോതമംഗലം താലൂക്കിലെ മാതിരപ്പിള്ളിയിലാണ് പ്രശസ്തവും പൗരാണികവുമായ മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതി ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.
ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതിയ്ക്കും, ശ്രീ ധർമ ശാസ്താവിനും തുല്യ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം. ആദിമൂല ഗണപതി ഭാവത്തിൽ വലം പിരിയോടു കൂടിയ ഗണപതി ഭഗവാന്റെ ഷഢാധാര പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ സവിശേഷത.
ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതിയും ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവും പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് ദശനമായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നത് മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്.

എല്ലാ വർഷത്തിലേയും മേടമാസത്തിലെ രോഹിണി നാൾ മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനമായി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.

കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി ആഘോഷങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ‘മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി’. ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ ശുക്ള പക്ഷ ചതുർത്ഥി നാളിലാണ് (ഗണേശ ചതുർത്ഥി) മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി ആഘോഷം. 1008 നാളികേരത്തിന്റെ അഷ്ടദ്രവ്യ മഹാഗണപതി ഹോമത്തോടോപ്പം ഗണേശ സംഗീതാരാധന, ഗജപൂജ, ആനയൂട്ട് എന്നിവയാണ് മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി ആഘോഷത്തിലെ പ്രത്യേകതകൾ. ഭഗവാന്റ പിറന്നാൾ ദിനമായ വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി നാടിൻറെ ഉത്സവം ആയിട്ടാണ് മാതിരപ്പിള്ളി നിവാസികൾ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്.

Mathirappilly Sree Mahaganapathi Temple

Ancient and famous Mathirappilly Sree Mahaganapathi temple is situated at Mathirappilly in Kothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam district in Kerala. Mathirappilly Sree Mahaganapathi Temple is an ancient shrine of Sree Mahaganapathi and Sree Dharma Sastha.
The prominent trait of this temple is the Aadimoola Ganapathi idol, having its trunk curved towards the right (form of ‘Siddhi Vinayaka’) and Sree Dharma Sastha have equal importance, and both are facing towards west in separate shrine.

Mathirappilly Vinayaka Chathrthi is one of the important and most popular Ganesh Chathurthi festivals in Kerala. Mathirappilly Vinayaka Chathurthi is celebrated on ‘shukla chaturthi’ (fourth day of the waxing moon period), in the Malayalam month of Chingam (August – September).
Sahasrashtadhika Ashtadravya Maha Ganapathi Homam (Ganapathi Homam performed with 1008 coconuts), Ganesh Sangeetharadhana, ‘Gajapooja’ and ‘Aana oottu’ (ritual that reveres elephant as Lord Ganesh) are the significance of Mathirappilly Vinayaka Chathrthi Festival.
