Inter personal communication is a complex and primarily human phenomenon and it occurs countless times a day. There are large diverse communities of people who live with communication problems representing both genders, all races, religions, socioeconomic levels and cultures of the world.

Audiology and Speech language pathology are two distinct service professions that are closely related, which address the needs of the individuals with communication disorders.

Audiologists provide Diagnostic and Rehabilitative services to individuals who have hearing and balance problems. Speech language pathologist are involved in the assessment and management of communicatiion - lannguage, cognition, voice, articulation, fluency and swallowing disorders.

Audiologists and Speech Language pathologists are independent and autonomous health professionals. At the same time, they work in collaboration with other medical and non-medical professionals.

They can work in a number of settings like hospitals, clinics, schools, rehabilitation centres, government agencies, nursing care facilities, research centres and private practice. Such wide arrays of work settings pose the challenge to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in varied clinical setup, and also offers endless opportunities. This is a profession which demands deep social commitment. The service provided by the professionals is not one that involves a relationship between an expert and a problem, rather, it is a human relationship - a work of the heart and soul!!
