या शाळेची स्थापना १९ जून १९४८ रोजी झाली. महात्मा गांधींच्या हत्येनंतर त्यांना श्रद्धांजली देण्यासाठी कर्मवीरांनी त्यांच्या नावाच्या १०१ शाळा काढण्याची शपथ घेतली. त्यातील महात्मा गांधी विद्यालय, रुकडी ही पहिली शाळा आहे. या शाळ उभारणीसाठी छत्रपती शाहू महाराजांनी १५० एकर जागा दिली आहे.
