Bisoi, a small village in the Jaunsar Bawar district in dehradun has many claims to frame a breathtaking clear view of the Himalayan snows, picturesque ancient homes of timber and stone equipped with earthquake resistant techniques and a well preserved traditional way of life. But the icing on the cake is surely the temple of Mahasu Devta, which is being painstakingly rebuilt in the traditional manner. What comes as a big surprise is that the renovation is not funded by the governmant or any other hight- flying organization like World Bank or Asian Development Bank, but by the villagers and resident of 14 other villages in the vicinity( a group of 15 villages is called a khat) who have contributed in cash and kind( voluntary labour, supplying contruction material, etc) for the success of this unique project. The work started in May 2011 an it excepted till complete with in sep 2015. Architecturally the temple appears to be one of the rarest examples of perfect and harmonious blend of stone and wood to form one composite grand edifice.
