In a world that seems to be interested in ‘filling’ the child’s mind with the know-how to survive in a highly complex society, we rarely find spaces that allow them to see how to live in harmony with nature.
Situated on the outskirts of Phaltan, Maganlal Gandhi Smrutivan has been designed to immerse the child in us, in the world of trees, birds, water and soil.
This 100 acre farm has been lovingly developed by Mr. Babulal Gandhi, keen activist during the Sarvodaya and Bhoodan movements, and his niece Ms. Madhavi Gandhi, along with the support of the entire family.

Placed in the rain-shadow region of the Sahyadari, this rocky, infertile land was converted into a captivating wilderness and an organic farm with decades of hard work and an unwavering vision.
This land offers to the beholder, wealth of trees and medicinal plants, water reservoir and canals, organic farm growing fruits and vegetables, fluttering butterflies, sightings of peacocks and other beautiful birds. Experience in person, how this dryland was developed into a bountiful home of various species.
Since the past few years, we have been engaging children, grown-ups, scientists, farmers, teachers and nature lovers in this space to horbour and nurture an environment centric thought process. We also conduct environmental camps for schools that are truly interested in providing such an experience to their children.

The last few years have witnessed drastic changes in the environment and climate. The issues of food, water and poverty are intensifying. The only hope of solution lies in shaping our future generation into environmentally conscious citizens.

What do we do here?
Maganlal Gandhi Smrutivan is a space with infinite possibilities. A child of every age (1-100+) has an invisible, resilient connection with nature. This place provides them an opportunity to renew this bond, look at it afresh, question it and cherish it. We invite children to visit us in all seasons, to witness the dance in ever-changing music.
We encourage them to work in the farm with us, relax in the calm waters and relish in the fresh harvest of fruits.
Our 1 to 3 day camps offer such a chance to shake hands with nature, and take a little bit of it back home.
Our action packed days promise to leave children with a fruit in their stomachs, and a seed in their minds.
