Maa Tara Chandi is
located in Kaimur range of Vindhya mountains. Some
scholars believe that this Shakti Peeth is located at the
banks of river Shoon river. After getting fragmented by
the Chakra of lord Vishnu, left eye of Goddess Sati had
fallen in Rampur (Bengal) which is known as Tara
Shaktipeeth.
Right eye of Sati had fallen in Sonebhadra , near the
river Shoon in between waterfall and natural beauty.
Rishi Vishwamitra gave it a name Tara. Parshuram had defeated Sahastrabahu at this place and
worshipped Goddess Tara, at this place. Goddess Tara appeared as a small girl in the Tara Shakti Peeth.
She killed Chand at this place and got the name of Chandi. This place is known as Sahastraram or
Sasaram.
In earlier days, it was known as Karush Pradesh. Sahastrabahu, son of Kartavirya, used to rule this place.
Today, Sasaram is in Bihar. Karush Pradesh is the area between river Karmnasha to Sonebhdra. It has
scenic mountain ranges, rivers etc.
About 60 km in the south direction, from here, Goddess Chandi killed Mund and got the name of
Mukteshwari. the temple is in Kemur district.
Tara Chandi Shakti Peeth is located in Sasaram. Parashuram Kund is located near this limited. Devotees
taje bath in this Kund and then go worshipping Goddess Tara. The Samadhi of Sahastrabahu is placed
near the right side of city’s police station. In the whole year, 3 times celebration are done at this place.
Apart from the Navratri, there is huge fair organised from Guru Purnima to Shravan Purnima.
It is believed that, while going from Bhodgaya to Saranath, Gautam Budh had stayed here for 21 days
and worshipped Goddess Tara Chandi. It is inscriptured on the stone in Pali language. this stone is kept
inside the temple. There is a story related to this event. Nearby, in the east direction, a witch named
Tadka used to live on Tarak Nath mountains. Lakshman had cut her nose.
Ashram of Vishwamitra is situated in Tara Chandi Ashram, were Ram and Lakshman had there education.
Tadka was killed at this place. Guru Tegbahadur worshipped Tara Chandi with his wife and students.
Today also, Sikh stay here for 3 days and perform Puja and Ardas. They perform Raj Bhog of Guru Granth
Sahib and remember their Guru. Bhairav Chandikeshwar Mahadev temple is located near the temple of
