About Lohaghat

Lohaghat is a quiet little hill station which holds an immense historical and mythical importance. Blessed with immaculate natural beauty, Lohaghat pleases lots of tourists with its scenic splendor.

Location

Lohaghat is situated on the bank of the River Lohawati, at an altitude of 1745 mts above sea level in the Champawat district of Uttarakhand. It is spread over 4.5 square kms; surrounded by pine and oak trees.

Main Attractions

Lohaghat is a small hill station with handful shops, and eateries. It gives you a glimpse of traditional culture which is not faded yet in the small town. It is covered with Rhododendron(Burans), the state flower of Uttarakhand, whose salubrious juice is famous.

The place holds numerous temples famous among devotees. Mayawati ashram is one of the most visited place and has many myths surrounding it. There is a new temple, Rikeshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated outside the main town, on the banks of the River Lohawati.

The quiet little hill station is also famous for a fight carnival called Bagwal. The Bagwal can be witnessed at a temple called Devidhura temple.

The rapids in the Lohawati River are ideal for rafting; also there are many other adventure activities which attract tourists.

Reaching Lohaghat

By Air: The nearest airport to Lohaghat is Pantnagar Airport, situated 185kms away in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. Taxis are available from Pantnagar Airport to Lohaghat via Haldwani. Pant Nagar Airport is well connected by motorable roads with Lohaghat.

By Road: Lohaghat is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of the Uttarakhand state and northern India. Buses from ISBT Anand Vihar(Delhi) are available to Tanakpur, Lohaghat and many other destinations from where you can easily hire a local cab or bus to reach Lohaghat. Taxis and buses are easily available to Lohaghat from major destinations of Kumaon region.

By Rail: The nearest railhead to Lohaghat is Tanakpur situated at a distance of 90 kms from Lohaghat. Taxis and buses are easily available from Tanakpur Railway Station to Lohaghat.
