More about Kurakkavu Bhagavathy Temple

In ancient days an idol of God “KIRAATHA MOORTHY” was worshipped here using betel. It was only a small temple at that time. Rituals using “Shiva” customs were mostly done here to find things that are either steal or lost. The rituals using betel became famous day by day and the existence of a supernatural power is proved to be there. They did an astrological ritual (ashta mangala prashnam) and it showed a big temple was situated there with its ruins still buried under the soil. So people decided to build a new temple there and they bought some property near the small old temple.

The building of temple started on may 8th of the year 1998 (1173 medam 25th). The idol placed here represents the goddess “Bhadra Kaaly” before the killing of dhaarika, the evil. The Goddess “Bhadra Kaaly” facing east and God “Kiraatha Moorthy” facing west along with Brahma Rakshas, Yogeswar, Naagaraaj, Naagayakshy, Akhilasarppangal, Moorthy, paay are placed and worshipped here with equal importance. The pond in front of the idol Kiraathamoorthy is known as ‘Rudra theertha kulam’. The water from this pond is considered to be holy and is used for rituals in temple. After the astrological ritual, more miracles started to see. Even the biggest copper plate couldn’t hold the goddess idols, so they used the ‘Rudra theertha’ pond for the water rituals.A serpent with mysterious face guarded the idols for three days during the water rituals and it suddenly disappeared before the idols are taken to temple for placing. During the placement of idol, people saw a five headed serpent guarding like an umbrella above the goddess idol. According to tantric Sri Brahmasri Neelakandan, during the ritual he felt only a movement of strand above the idol. But when he came down after the ritual he realized that the people felt the strand as a serpent during the ritual. After this incident more tantric (pooja) rituals started in temple. By the tantric karmas, kalasha, homam and festivals the goddess idol became more and more enliven. Festival of this temple comes in the Malayalam month of dhanus and there will be special poojas in every month.
