The Inception:
Inspired by the way an Ayurveda Physician diagnosed the miserable condition of wife, Late Sri Basappanna Mallappanna Kankanwadi, a retired Police Officer established this institute in 1933 by donating all his retirement earnings Rs.50,000/-

MILESTONES:
1933 – Karnataka Ayurved Vidyapeet Society Established Shri B M Kankanawadi Ayurved Mahavidyalaya at Lingaraj college campus.

1938 – College & Hospital Shifted to Its own building at Khasbhag, Belgaum.

1964 – College Shifted to Shahapur (existing building). Inaugurated by Sri S. NIJALINGAPPA, Chief minister of Karnataka.

1990 – The Institute was taken over by KLE Society, Belgaum.

2008 - New hospital building inaugurated by Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the pesence of Shri SM Krishna, Honb. Governor of Maharastra.

2009 – Came under the ambit of KLE University Inauguration of Central Research Facility by Dr GS Lavekar, Director General, CCRAS, New Delhi.

2010 – Inauguration of Animal Experimentation Laboratory by Dr Dy Patil, Honb. Governor Tripura State.

2012 – Inauguration of Manthan (new library & PG block) by Shri Ghulam Nabi azad, honb. Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare
Presently the institute is spread in 33 acres of land (three plots) under three major establishments

The college offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Certificate programs under the Faculty of Ayurveda. The campus is very rich and vibrant in terms of having impressive infrastructure, renowned and extensively experienced teaching faculty, state of the art teaching hospital and clinical research center, having 360 beds and top notch diagnostic facilities under one roof. The Wi-Fi and digital library, e-learning and other facilities are at par with best campuses of the country and abroad.

Ph.D. program in Ayurveda inter disciplinary research are the new endeavors of the University. To match the concept of Global village of the present era the college has signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with various premier organisations.

The college takes a very strict view against any kind of ragging activity and the entire campus is under strict vigil to prevent any ragging activity. The students in the campus are from different states and different cultures and all the efforts are taken for smooth induction of the students into the campus and for that purpose student orientation programs, language classes for enabling the students to interact with local patients are regularly conducted. Facilities like bank, pharmacy, internet access, café facilities are provided in the campus itself.

Calendar of events delineating the examination schedule and other important curricular events are provided to every student at the beginning of academic session thus enabling the students to plan and pace their studies well in advance.
