KIRAN Society

The word “kiran” translates to mean: ray of light. The KIRAN Society has embodied this to become a ray of hope in North India.
The centre was founded in September 1990 by a small group of people from various social, cultural, and religious backgrounds; it has continued to work based on the idea of inclusion and togetherness, enriching everyone’s talent and abilities for differently able and disadvantaged children and youngsters.
In 1998, the KIRAN Centre shifted from Varanasi city to the outer village of Madhopur near the famous Sultankeshwar Temple located about 12 km south of Banares Hindu University, (BHU).
Today KIRAN Society functions as a small village where children and youngster with different abilities receive education; skills and vocational training; and physical rehabilitation, where inclusiveness gives happiness to all.
Most of the children and youngsters we assist suffer from the afflictions of polio, cerebral palsy, rickets and/or hearing impairments. They have all the potential to lead normal lives unfortunately many such children suffer the fate of being hidden and kept at their homes; getting no access to education or rehabilitation.
KIRAN Society gives chances by helping and supporting these children, youngsters, and their families in various ways.
At KIRAN we believe that family involvement is an essential part of the recovery process. We remain in constant contact with the children’s’ and youngsters’ families, discussing medical conditions, educational issues, as well as providing them counseling and support.
We have recently celebrated our 25th anniversary and hope to continue well into the future offering services and support for children and their families.
