More about Khukhundoo

Location::
About 2 km from Khukhundu crossing, which is 11 km from Deoria & 61 km from Gorakhpur in Deoria district, U.P., India

The place is the birthplace of 9th Tirthankar Pushpadant. He took deeksha in Pushpakvan and underwent penance for four years. Ultimately he attained true light of knowledge- 'The Kevalya Gyan'. The nearby villages Kukubh & Kakandi stand in ruins today. A Jain temple was constructed by Rai Bahadur Mulchand in 1874. The temple used to house idols of Lord Neminath, Lord Pushpadant & Lord Parshwanath. But these idols were stolen and now a new temple has been constructed and a big new idol of Bhagwan Pushpadant (9.25 feet high) in padmasan mudra, made of granite has been installed. Old temple building, new temple & a Charanpaduka canopy are located inside the premises of the temple. A Dharmshala has also been constructed for the devotees.
