Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force Station, Avadi was established in the Defence Sector on 15th June 1964 in the campus of the Air Force Station. It is situated in the Air Force Station area at Avadi, one of the suburbs of Chennai. It is one of the oldest Kendriya Vidyalayas, and also one of the biggest with an enrolment of 2000 students in Classes I to XII. The Vidyalaya has grown over the years to its present state with the contributions of its illustrious Principals and Teachers. The Vidyalaya moved to its present campus when the building was constructed in 1977.
The Vidyalaya offers Science, Commerce and Humanities Streams with facilities for offering Computer Science and Informatics Practices. There are 4 sections in Classes I to X and one section in each stream in Classes XI and XII.
The Vidyalaya is situated in a 17 acre campus which has ample space for all outdoor games. The Vidyalaya offers facilities for Atletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Kho-kho and Volleyball.
The Vidyalaya has an approved staff strength of 73 with 63 teachers. Apart from this the Vidyalaya has also Coaches / Vocational Teachers, Computer Instructors and Spoken English Teachers.
The Vidyalaya is an active participant in all the technology initiatives of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan like the ThinkQuest.
