More about Karbala, Siwan

Panchayat ~ Koirigawan.
Block & Thana ~ Barharia.
District ~ Siwan.

It is situated 10 kms away to the North East from the district headquarter of Siwan on State Highway No.45.

Inhabitants of this village have been traders and merchants since several generations. Earliest known accounts tell that they used to travelled to South-East Asia particulary to Burma ( present Myanmar) for conducting their businesses. Some of them even settled down there permanently and have families. Others too settled in the North-Eastern states of India likes Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mainpur etc. Business is still being carried on by the migrants from these places of settlement even to these days. In the years following the Independence of Pakistan in 1947, some families moved to settle in Bangladesh (erstwhile East Pakistan). After the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, these families then migarted to and made the largest city as well as the capital of the province of Sindh, Karachi in Pakistan their new home. They are now well settled and thriving in all walks of life.

The Oil Boom in the Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait etc. in the 1970s heralded a new era for this village. Apparently, large number of people from the village started heading towards these countries in seach of jobs and to earn Petro-Dollars. In the period between 1970s till the late 1990s most of the migrants worked as blue collar. Close to the late1990s this trend started to change with the rising education levels, exposures and aspirations of the younger generations. These opened doors of oppurtunities for them both in and outside India. Today a good number of them can be found working as white collar employees in offices of Domestic Private Companies, MNCs, PSUs, Govt. Sectors, Academics, Hospitals and other fields in India and abroad.

The village has a relatively good economic condition among the villages of Siwan district. This is quite evident from the gradual changes one can witness in the rising standard of living, education and affluence of the inhabitants in the last 10-15 years. The village housing landscape has also developed a lot with the inflow of remittance money from foreign countries as well as from within India.

We all invite you to have a feel of our village at a glance and through posts from time to time. Thanks.
