Karanayil Madom

Karanayil Madom is a famous temple located in a beautiful village called Ettumana in Thrissur District (Kerala). Dedicated to Vishnumaya Chathan Swami, the temple is noted for its religious rites and pujas. Kovindha Muthappa ,Karanayil Madom had meditated for years and years and he was granted the vision of Vishnumaya Chathan Swami, in the form of a supreme brilliance, as an embodiment of spiritual strength and valour, believed to protect this world from all the calamities and disasters of Kaliyuga. The belief is that the Hindu trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva sent this power to the earth. Due to his closeness to Mahavishnu, he is called as Vishnu Maya, as he was born in forest dweller,then he is called Chathan. Kovindhamuthappa is venered as the teacher and guide of Karanayil Madom.

K V Padmanaban Swami, hailing from the family line of Kovindhamuthappa, is the chief of Karanayil Madom now.
The temple has deities of Devi Bhuvaneswari, Bhadrakaali,Veerabhadhran,Malavaaramoorthi,Nagarakshas and Brahmarakshas. Apart from this, the temple houses the images of about three hundred and ninety Kuttichathans.
