More about Kannankulangara Sivakshethram Tripunithura

Kannankulangara Siva Kshetram, along with the Kannankulam and the oottupura forms a beautiful picture along the Tripunithura Mini by- pass. There are several interesting things about the Kannankulangara Siva temple. It is the temple where the maximum number of Rudrabhishekams takes place in the district of Ernakulam. It may even be leader for such functions in the state of Kerala. Approximately 15-20 Rudrabhishekams happen every year in this temple. This is akin to a “Maharudram” being performed every year in the temple and this happens only in very auspicious places.

The Siva Linga of this temple is extraordinarily big. Old timers say that this could even be more than 6 feet in length. A few of them remember that it was not able to carry the Siva Linga in a hand cart when it was brought for consecration from Thiruvankulam, its moolasthanam, to Kannankulangara. The stories give varied descriptions about the size but it is unusually large for sure.
The Siva kshetra has shed its old image and has acquired a makeover in recent times. The old brick construction has been covered by shiny yellow metal and the temple has acquired a new look now. Yes the temple has changed with times!

There are a lot of festivals that happen in this temple, unusually large for a temple of its size. This has resulted in a lot of patronage and the temple is always in the radar of temple goers of the town.

The huge temple pond, the new modern look of the temple, the mini by-pass, the huge Banyan Tree, The aalthara and the small ground in front of the temple all make a serene view and gives an ascetic feeling to this temple.
