Asansol Kalyanpur Housing

One of the most planned hosing colonies of Asansol city developed by the West Bengal Housing Development Corporation which is quite an exception as Asansol is a prime example of haphazard and unplanned urbanization.

This is a sprawling housing complex located on the eastern side of Sen-Raleigh Road and on the bank of Nunia river and divided into 3 Schemes i.e. Scheme I, Scheme II and Scheme III besides the numerous plots. The Schemes had built up houses which were allocated to the allottees, with various types ranging from AS-1 to AS-8. While the plots were sold to the interested buyers who built their homes in their own style.

The colony is self sufficient and boasts of its own community center commonly known as Kalyanpur Market where all items of daily needs can be bought. Besides the same the colony also has its own place of worship known as Ma Melaburi Mandir. Although in the initial years the colony was almost at the outskirts and hence was not well connected to the main Asansol city it is now has well connectivity. There are regular mini bus services from the colony upto Asansol Railway Station which goes via BNR More and Asansol Market. Three wheelers can also be taken from the HLG Hospital More.

The colony is mainly an urban upper middle class residency. The demographics of the colony is primarily Bengali Hindu although people from other religion and communities can be found too.

Kalyanpur was always known for serenity and open green spaces away from the hustle bustle of Asansol city. However in recent years a lot of unplanned construction activity has been taking place in and around the colony which has threatened the original serenity of the colony. Most of the houses in the plots have been broken and multistoreyed ugly looking flats have been constructed on them. The recent years has also seen the development of the modern township called Shristinagar near Kalyanpur with its mall and world class facilities. this has also led to an increase in the real estate prices in and around Kalyanpur
