Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara, one of the founding fathers and the first Superior General of C.M.I., was born here.Land reclamationThe path-breaking kayal reclamations Venad Kayal and Madathil kayal which are located in Kainakary village opened up a new era in agriculture in Kerala. This pioneering reclamation was carried out by Pallithanam Mathai Luka of Kainady village in Kuttanadu. It paved way for many other large scale reclamations in the Vembanadu lake and Kuttanadu became the rice-bowl of Kerala.
