JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science

JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysore which was started in 1964 is one among more than 300 institutions run by JSS Mahavidyapeetha. The college is autonomous under University of Mysore and is re-accredited by NAAC with "A" Grade. The college is identified by UGC to be a `College with Potential for Excellence'. The college has been functioning as an autonomous college from the academic year 2005-2006. The distinctive features of autonomy are that the college is empowered to frame the syllabi, introduce new courses and conduct examinations independently. The degree is awarded by the University of Mysore.

The college is situated on a sprawling 7 acres plot with a spacious building and a hostel in a picturesque surrounding at the foot of Chamundi Hills. The construction of third floor to the existing building is almost complete which will create additional space to meet the growing needs of the college. The womens hostel has also been expanded to accommodate 150 students. It has excellent infrastructure required for the pursuit of academic excellence. Because of its multifaceted growth, the college has won encomiums from all corners. Apart from Science, Arts and Commerce courses, the institution offers inter - disciplinary courses in Business Management, Sericulture, Electronics, Computer Science, Computer Maintenance, Instrumentation, Biochemistry, Bio-Technology and Micro-Biology. The college is offering Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), M.Sc in Computer Science, Biochemistry and Bio-Technology, PG Diploma courses in Embedded Systems, ICT for Development and Sharana Sahitya. P.G. Diploma in HRM has been introduced. M.Com and Career Oriented Courses in Animation have been introduced from 2010-11.

The college has entered into a joint programme with Connecticut College, USA which enables our students to study one semester in their college at highly subsidised fee.

The college has highly qualified and dedicated teaching staff. Nearly 1600 students including foreign students are pursuing their education in various disciplines. It has an enviable academic record as students secure ranks and honors almost every year in the examination. Many Alumni of the institution are successful literati, politicians, administrators and bureaucrats and still nostalgic and maintain emotional attachment with the institution. The college also has conducive atmosphere for sports and cultural activities. It has a well maintained playground and a well equipped national level Basketball Court. Students have brought laurels to the college in Games, Multigym, Sports, Debate & Music at Inter-College and University level events. The college has an NCC wing and two NSS Units, the volunteers of which have participated in state and national level camps.

The college has successfully organised National and State level Seminars, Workshops, Conferences and Symposia. Curriculam development and examination reforms are being implemented on a continuous basis. From the academic year 2010-11, CBCS and CAGP will be introduced for PG courses. It is modest in realising that what has been achieved up to now is only a beginning. Under the spiritual guidance of Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the institution is desirous of scaling new heights in days to come. The entire spectrum of management, staff and students are committed to put in their best to make this dream come true.
